One of the world’s leading industrial air compressor specialists has chosen UK-based Holroyd Precision Limited to supply ‘next generation’ milling and grinding machines for its main manufacturing facility in the USA.

Valued at £3.3 million, the order from China is for a Holroyd 8EX rotor milling machine that is capable of milling profiles of up to 850mm in diameter, and a Holroyd TG350E (350mm diameter capability) rotor grinding machine.

One company was clearly on the lips and tweets of visitors at the 2013 EMO Hannover metalworking trade fair in September – and that was UK-based Precision Technologies Group (PTG). Taking the event’s theme of ‘Intelligence in Production’ to exciting new levels, instead of displaying examples of its ultra precision machinery, PTG treated delegates to an incredible display of augmented reality.

When the latest cohort of craft apprentices joins Rochdale-based Holroyd Precision Limited in September 2013, the individuals concerned will be continuing a tradition that goes back for almost as long as the 150-plus years that Holroyd has been a leading employer in the region.

The conference is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading events in compressor technology, and City University London is globally recognised as a premier centre of excellence for compressor design and development. Known as the WG Series, these new worm gear ‘grinding stations’ incorporate Holroyd’s award-winning ‘SMART’ probe and self-correction CNC technology. Depending on the model selected, users can grind precision worm shafts to AGMA 14/DIN 2 in sizes ranging from 3mm to 500mm diameter and thread lengths up to 1600mm, with a 130mm diameter through bore work head to accommodate long shaft lengths.
