PTG Friction Stir Welding Machine Sales Reach New Heights, with Orders from Russian Space Industry
PTG Heavy Industries, part of the UK-based Precision Technologies Group, have secured orders for two of their innovative Powerstir Friction Stir Welding (FSW) machines from leading organisations in the Russian space industry. Scheduled for delivery in early 2013 – and with a combined value in excess of £2 million – the orders provide an exciting new market opportunity for PTG. The machines in question will be used for jointing various metals, including aluminium, aluminium alloys, steel and titanium.
Global reputation
“We are renowned for building the world’s most powerful Friction Stir Welders,” comments PTG Heavy Industries’ Sales Manager, Chris Cheetham. “To-date PTG Friction Stir Welding technology has been embraced across a wide range of industrial sectors.
“These latest orders, however, from two separate organisations involved in aviation and the design and construction of space craft,” he continued, “serve to further endorse the considerable advantages that Powerstir Friction Stir Welding is able to deliver. We are delighted that the companies concerned have chosen to invest in PTG Friction Stir Welding and look forward to working closely with them.”
About PTG Powerstir Friction Stir Welding
Patented by TWI Limited (The Welding Institute), Friction Stir Welding is a unique and innovative means of jointing metals. The process combines frictional heat with precisely controlled forging pressure to produce extremely high-strength joints that are virtually defect free. Friction Stir Welding transforms the parent metal from a solid to a plasticised state. This occurs during a process that involves mechanically stirring the materials together to form a high-integrity, full-penetration welded joint.
PTG Heavy Industries’ award-winning Powerstir Friction Stir Welding machines have been developed for a broad range of industrial applications, where special attention is paid to structural rigidity.
Offering far-reaching opportunities for jointing often difficult to weld alloys, Powerstir machines are able to accommodate even the heaviest of welding loads and offer superior weld properties, without the detrimental and visible effects associated with conventional welding.
PTG. The first name in precision
